Philosophy Modules at Undergraduate Level

At NMMU Philosophy’s task is understood in terms of its Socratic ideal, which takes philosophy to be critical and creative thinking concerning the meaning of being, for the sake of building a worthy ethos. The first thing you need to start this process is a rich knowledge base, which enables you to appreciate the diversity of philosophical approaches across cultures and across eras. Alongside this knowledge base, you cannot be philosophical if you don’t know how to ask philosophical questions, critically assess opinions and build coherent arguments of your own. The First Year Philosophy Modules aim to introduce you to these two aspects of philosophical thinking.
