Ms Zizipho Tom

Ms Tom is currently pursuing a PhD degree in Sociology at Nelson Mandela University. Her research interests include social justice, sociology of health and gender studies, sociolinguistics, particularly on language policies in the South African government departments. She holds a BA from the University of the Western Cape, a BA (Hons) in Sociology and a MA Sociology (Research) from Nelson Mandela University. She is a recipient of a research scholarship from the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences. Her Honours research examined how language affects access to health care. Her Masters research interrogated how the language and communication challenges faced by court interpreters during proceedings affect the course of justice.
